At Canaan, we build relationships with organizations to improve the health of the communities we serve. Our partnership with these organizations is one of the many ways we impact the human condition. However, our partnership with these organizations is not an endorsement but a show of our appreciation for assisting us in serving the community. The listing below reflects some, but not all, of our partnerships.

AMERICAN RED CROSS

The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing volunteers' power and donors' generosity. www.redcross.org

FOOD BANK OF DELAWARE

FRIENDSHIP HOUSE, INC.

A non-profit Christian organization committed to making a difference in the lives of displaced and homeless people in New Castle County, DE, through traditional spiritual ministries of hospitality, education, empowerment, and community. http://friendship-house.org

GOSPEL MUSIC WORKSHOP OF AMERICA

The Gospel Music Workshop of America is a Christian organization convening annually, where national performers, recording artists, new and inspiring songwriters, educators, liturgical dancers, the young and old, pastors, and others minister to each other and the needs and directions within the African American religious experience. It has opened its doors to welcome and receive people of different colors, influences, and cultures. www.gmwanational.net

HBCUs

HBCUs are a source of accomplishment and great pride for the African American community and the nation. The Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended, defines an HBCU as: "…any historically black college or university that was established before 1964, whose principal mission was, and is, the education of black Americans, and that is accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency or association determined by the Secretary [of Education] to be a reliable authority as to the quality of training offered or is, according to such an agency or association, making reasonable progress toward accreditation." HBCUs offer all students an opportunity to develop their skills and talents regardless of race. These institutions train young people to serve domestically and internationally in the professions of entrepreneurs and the public and private sectors.

NAACP

Founded Feb. 12. 1909, the NAACP is the nation's oldest, largest, and most widely recognized grassroots-based civil rights organization. Its more than half-million members and supporters throughout the United States and the world are the premier advocates for civil rights in communities, campaigning for equal opportunity and conducting voter mobilization. www.naacp.org

NATIONAL URBAN LEAGUE

The National Urban League is a historic civil rights organization dedicated to economic empowerment to elevate living standards in historically underserved urban communities. Founded in 1910 and headquartered in New York City, the National Urban League spearheads the efforts of its local affiliates through the development of programs, public policy research, and advocacy. Today, the National Urban League has 88 affiliates serving 300 communities in 36 states and the District of Columbia, providing direct services that impact and improve the lives of more than 2 million people nationwide. http://nul.iamempowered.com

RAINBOW PUSH COALITION

The Rainbow PUSH Coalition is the result of a merger between Operation PUSH and the Rainbow Coalition. It was established in 1971 by Rev. Jackson, People United to Save Humanity (later changed from "Save" to "Serve")--PUSH was an organization dedicated to improving the economic conditions of black communities across the United States. In the 1970s, PUSH expanded into social and political development areas using direct action campaigns, a weekly radio broadcast, and awards that honored prominent blacks in the U.S. and abroad. Through Operation PUSH, Rev. Jackson established a platform from which to protect black homeowners, workers, and businesses. www.rainbowpush.org

KENNY FAMILY FOUNDATION (SHOPRITE)

KFF supports non-profit organizations that work diligently to enhance the quality of life for residents of New Castle County by supporting efforts related to education, community development & preservation, health, financial literacy, and human services. Their micro-grants are awarded to local non-profit organizations, and these success stories speak volumes about the power of a community foundation. www.kffde.org

SOJOURNERS' PLACE

THE RONALD McDONALD HOUSE OF DELAWARE

The Ronald McDonald House of Delaware provides a "home away from home" for families of seriously or chronically ill or injured children receiving treatment at area hospitals by offering nurturing and supportive environments where families can stay together and find comfort. https://rmhde.org
